Mark Hillman’s 356 Porsche speedster Story Almost exactly 40 years ago I returned from Viet Nam and was discharged in San Diego California. I thought that this would be a great place to look for a Porsche speedster so I picked up a local paper to check the ads. Sure enough, there was a ’57 Porsche speedster "a former club racer" without an engine. I bargained and got it for $500. Went to a local junk yard, bought an old VW bus motor and put it into the speedster. Drove it back Seattle and used it as my family’s daily driver for 6 years, but then got tired of being wet most of the year and put it into my garage. It sits there still. Took it out of the garage several years ago to have Mark Burke of Burke Fabrication correct some race related damage and align the doors, etc. for $11K+. Bought a 912 motor that isn’t installed, and returned the speedster to the garage where it sits today. Mark Hillman Member #306
