Glenn's Barn Tour

- Story by Walt Carrel

The day was perfect for a drive to the Island in our 356s. There was blue sky but not too hot. The route we took had light traffic, scenic vistas and a ferry ride. My cars always runs better after a cruise on a ferry.  It was a good test for some navigation systems. The read-a-map technique I have built into my 53 saved us about 3 miles and 10 minutes over the GPS based directions.

Glen  was kind enough to host a tour  at his place. He is the current custodian of a fine collection of vintage automobiles, motor cycles and other gear head stuff.  He has had a barn built for the collection with a big parking pad in front, and we filled it with about 27 356s. There was barely enough room for us but we packed them in as you can see in the pictures.

After a nice visit and look at the car stuff we moved to a restaurant and had a lunch overlooking the sound. The view was great as was the company.

Nothing more was planed so we all headed home from there. I was such a nice day several took the long routes back home. You could take another ferry, we went to Kingston/Edmonds and out toward Stevens Pass. Several headed south toward the Narrows Bridge in Tacoma and around. The quick way to Seattle was the Bainbridge/Seattle Ferry.
