2008 Bull Sessionat Denny Aker's Hobby ShopStory by Paul Hatfield On June 8, 2008 356
Group Northwest held it’s annual "Bull Session" at Denny Akers hobby shop. Once
again, the event surpassed everyone’s expectations and all those who attended
had a spectacular time.
Leading up to the event the Pacific Northwest weather was not looking at co-operating. It rained for 6 straight days prior to the Saturday meeting. This is a major event located in the suburbs of Seattle, and it draws 356 cars from several states and Canada. We were fortunate to get a one day reprieve from the rain, the day of the event, and the turnout of people and cars was impressive. One person who counted 356’s being displayed at 100+, and that is 356’s only. There were likely another 50+ Porsche cars of various models who came to observe the 356’s and enjoy a BBQ lunch, drinks, and ice cream. The 356’s included several Carrera’s and just about any configuration of 356 produced- truly a wonderful assemblage of cars. Denny Akers was a fantastic host again, and his collection of Porsches and Porsche trivia was there for everyone to admire. Porsche industrial engines, tractors, unrestored Speedsters, and spare 4-cam engines, all there for the group to see. Our volunteers were very busy that day. Marianne Hatfield was at the front tent welcoming the attendees, and a host of others parked the cars as they arrived. We even had our new club banner there! Perry Lee and Nick Daffern manned the BBQ’s for hot dogs and polish sausage while other volunteers kept the soft drinks and ice cream served up. We even had Diane there with the Goodie Store! The "Bull Session" does not have any technical presentations, and no concours, it is simply a great time to get together and talk P-talk. Original owners of 356’s talking to new group members, and sharing stories and good times. This event has become so popular that in future years we will have to restrict the parking on the property to 356’s only and the "other" Porsches will need to park off site. All things being considered, that is a great compliment to the event, in that it is so well enjoyed as to attract that big a crowd in the Pacific Northwest. I know I am looking forward to next year!
